天长，地久。天地之所以能长且久者，以其不自生也，故能长生。
是以圣人后其身而身先，外其身而身存，非以其无私邪？故能成其私。

Translation & Meaning

天宇恒长，大地永续。天地之所以能够如此长久不衰，正是因为它们不为自身的私欲而运作，所以反而能万古长生。 因此圣人谦退地把自己放在众人之后，反而受到众人推崇而居先；把个人得失置之度外，反而得以全身安存。 这难道不正是因为他胸怀无私吗？正因无私，反而自然成就了他生命的圆满。

Commentary

青禾散人评注：凡刻意汲营自保者，往往困于方寸之地；反之，如天地般“不自生”、专注于利益整体者，反而获得最深广的生命托举。
