信言不美，美言不信。善者不辩，辩者不善。知者不博，博者不知。圣人不积，既以为人己愈有，既以与人己愈多。天之道，利而不害。圣人之道，为而不争。
Translation & Meaning
真誠質樸的話語往往不華麗討巧，華麗討巧的辭令往往不真誠可信。真正良善篤行的人不逞巧辯，好逞口舌巧辯的人往往不夠醇善。真正通達大道的人不炫耀駁雜見聞，賣弄廣博碎知的人往往並未徹悟根本。 聖人從不自私囤積：越是盡力幫助他人，自己的精神與格局便越發豐盈；越是慷慨施予他人，自己的德澤與福慧便越發充沛。 自然天道的準則，是普利萬物而從不加害；聖人行道的準則，是盡心施為而從不爭奪。
